One of the most frequently used words in my book is illusion. The reason for this is that illusion is one of the primary obstacles to authenticity. The authentic Self can only exist in reality. Anything that prevents you from being you is an obstacle.
Illusion, or the failure to recognize it, is also a primary reason for many of the problems in the world today:
- Many of the images and words that we see encourage us to escape from reality (or fool us into thinking that reality is not pleasant or that our life is “not good enough.”)
- The Internet enables people to carve out a subjective reality that rarely matches objective reality. This creates separation, division, and a false sense of security.
- Predators, such as corrupt leaders, dishonest salespeople, and other manipulative people, use illusion to trick their victims into submission.
How does one end illusion? Recognition. When one recognizes reality, it ends. To end the influence of illusion, one must also reduce the influence of ego, which loves to see and use illusion. But the potential challenges with ego are for another discussion.
For now, here is today’s featured quote for your consideration:
In a world where illusion is preferred to reality, illusionists have the most control.
