On Fear and Letting Go

Bach quote-illusions-clinging-boy jumping into the sea

This featured quote is used in my book to help frame a perspective about fear, authenticity, and going with the flow of life:

I am tired of clinging. Though I cannot see it with my eyes, I trust that the current knows where it is going. I shall let go, and let it take me where it will. Clinging, I shall die of boredom.

Richard Back, Illusions: Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

The Bach quote finishes a section in my book, where I explain how fear of the unknown and the resistance to change are primary causes of suffering:

…to fear the unknown is to think that the Self is not good enough to navigate the rapids; this is the fear of failure; it’s the fear of change; it’s what has us clinging, rather than going with the flow.

Kent Thune, Perspectives for Mastery of Life

More importantly, for mastery of life, remember that fear and resistance to change are inhibitors of authenticity. Courage is believing that there can be no failure when you are thinking and acting as the authentic Self. In different words, your only fear should be not being who you are.

What are your thoughts? What does the featured Bach quote mean to you? Are you clinging to something that is preventing your happiness or success?

Thank you for reading, friends!
